Workout nutrition
2010-06-22
I've got a lot of questions about my training and what I eat afterwards and why. So here it is:
I try to train to get in the best possible shape to play and practice. My goal is to get equally good at running, lifting weights, having a strong core and being flexible. I think it will help me in my golf game and especially so I can train a lot on the golf course and in the gym without getting tired or worse, injured.
After a gym session I always have a big protein shake. I heard it's very important to get protein within 30 minutes after a workout because the protein will help building muscle. If you don't get enough protein right after the body will use the muscle as fuel which is the fastest fuel for the body. Fat is saved for when you really need it. But, if you get the protein fast it will both build muscle mass and you will burn fat since it doesn't have to burn muscle.
Sometimes, before a long day on the course I have a shake so I know I will get enough energy to stay fresh mentally. I also eat about 4 powerbars a round plus fruit and sometimes a sandwich.
This is the protein I eat. It's the best I know. Tastes good and almost no sugar. If you get too much sugar in your protein shake after a workout you will only burn sugar and not fat.
The bars.
Back soon.

I totally agree with Westersund. Those bars aren't what they seem to be. Just check the first ingridient, which should be the largest.
Switch over to rye-bread sandwiches with cottage cheese and turkey breast instead :-)
Good luck !

I didn't know eating glorified candy would help you on the golf course (I'm talking about the Multipower bars). And you should keep updated about what's new in the supplement business, if you want an edge. Ingesting (partly fast) carbohydrates is positive for recovery after lifting weights, I'd say that more important than "burning fat"! If you wanna burn fat for real you should eat less kcal than you use during the day, a small amount of carbohydrates after lifting weights won't make any noticable difference anyway. No pun intended I just wanted to keep you in the loop. Good luck on the golf course. Best wishes.
