Jeju Island and Question and Answer time!
2010-04-19Got to Jeju Island, South Korea a few hours ago. Feel tired and worn out but managed to boost myself up with a little help of one RedBull and two cups of some kind of Asian power tea to give Edfors a challenge on a core exercise workout session. I love working out with Edfors. He is the best pusher and motivator. I hate loosing to him:)
Answered a few questions that you asked me. Thanks for all those. It's interesting to see what you have on your minds!

Q. saw you last week in Arcos. I was there with our Club Team from Germany. We watched your Bunker Training: It was amazing! Nice to see how it works in Sweden, that you show the Youngsters how it works. Learned so much about Bunktershots without understanding one word of the swedish language. Just through your gesture and showing.
I loved your grey Footjoy Icons, can you please tell me what the Color is? Grey smooth, Light Taupe smooth or silver metallic? Would be very pleased to get an answer from you.
Best regards from CologneA. I think they're grey smooth. They already had a picture of them on the icon myjoys website. I love the look of them but haven't tried them out yet in a tournament. Arcos was a lot of fun. Hope you learnt something. I stood in that bunker for a while to figure that out:)
Q. Bra lirat idag, och snygga bilder. Såg dig på tv idag, hur kommer det sig att du kortar av svingen efter bollträff när du spelar in mot green? Kör hårt nu sista dagen. Lycka till!
ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Well played, cool pics. Watched you on TV, how come you shorten your backswing when you play into the green? Play well.
A. I have always had a tendancy to shorten my swing. I think I do it mostly when I don't feel hundred percent comfortable with my game and want to play a "safe" shot. Also, I do it to control the flight in wind. It's easier to hit it low.
Q. Good luck. And you don't have to get up so early. Starting around 12 and walking with Shane Lowry. What do you think of him?
A. I really liked playing with Shane. He's a great guy and so relaxed. His game is very good and he seems to love golf.
Q. Hey Alex,
In your last post I noticed that your putter in the bag picture seems to be a blade type putter.
Have you switched to a new one or does the 2-ball actually fit into that cover?!A. I've changed putters to a Odyssey Black Series i 1. A more traditional look which I'm more used to.
Q. Hi alex, do the wetland and the links courses on that course China have a different design?
A. They had the same grass type and the same difficulty but played a little different. It was more heavy rough on the links and deeper bunkers but it was still pretty wide of the tee.
Q. Interested in the 2x18 long putting drill? whats up with that? What I would like is som more details hopefully, since Im working on my long putts and pace at the moment. Best of luck in China and awesome blog action:)
A. The drill is to hit 18 long putts ranging from 8-22 meters. You can make up your own and be consistent and measure if you have gotten better at it. You score 5 points if you hole it, 4 within 50 cm, 3 within 1 meter, 2 within 2 meters and 1 within 3 meters. I think it's a good test to see if you improve with practice.
Q. hi Alex, sorry to ask u this, but i'm an asian so, not familiar with english name. How do u pronounce Colin's surname?
A. Nice to have an Asian reading my blog! Fun! His last name is spelled Byrne but pronounces burn.
Q. Hi alex just wondering how much you practice short game in relation to the amount of long game practice. Good luck over the next couple of weeks in asia.
A. I used to practice more long game but has now changed up my practise routine and practises almost double as much shortgame as long game.
Q. Love the blog, any chance you could give us an idea of your pre round stretching routine?A. Yeah sure. I start with 3 flexibility exercises that lasts around 7 minutes. I get pretty warm and get a pulse by doing them. Then it's a fast stretch by Pierre of all the big muscles and rotation movements. Then finally I do some core exercises and it's time to warm up for golf.
Q. What's your thoughts about the masters ? Do you regret not going to South Africa to play the tournaments before Christmas to try and get in to the top 50 of the world so you could have been at the masters as well ?A. I try to not dwell over the past. Done is done. I would've loved to play the Masters but at the same time I got a lot of very important stuff done about my golf and made some important decisions and now I've got a plan to move forward. I wasn't happy with how things were going anf had to break it up.
Q. hey alex keep up good practice ya swings lookin good not long till a big result/ can you explain how you get loads of spin from bunker be awesome to practice it?
A. I tried to figure out how to get both height and spin with a 52 degrees wedge out of the bunker. The best exercise I think is to stand in a flat bunker and then play a 52 degree to a short pin where the green slopes away from you. Then you really need to figure out how to spin the ball but also get enough height to it. After a while I understood that I had to open the blade during the swing to add loft and make the ball climb more over all the grooves of the clubface. Then you will get a longer ball contact and therefore more spin. After using the 52 degree it feels very easy to get spin with a 60 degree afterwards.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Jeju Island is not know for good weather this time of the year and today was probably worse than ever...
This was earlier today and it hasn't been close to stopping. Interesting to see if we need boats out there.
Even the bird is pissed off.Good night and sleep well:)

Hey Alex good week last week and hopefully your next win is around the corner. Just wondering if there are any drills or tips that you would be able to give me as i have a tendency to take the club back too much on the inside and also any drills that can improve tempo as my tempo is quite quick and would like to slow it down whilst keeping good club head speed. Thanks and good luck this week.reply

Hahahaha. I like your comment on the bird. Being Monday doesn't help neither.Agree with Petter and Edward's comments. As a sport fan I truely appreciate your time and effort you have put into updating your blog and keeping us posted on your daily activities. Interesting reading.
Hope the weather gets better for you tomorrow.

Alex,What core exercises do you generally do and how often do you do them? I have seen pictures of Russian twists but what other moves are specifically good for golf?
Thanks

Keep it up Alex, glad you had a good week. I love reading your blog for inspiration and motivation, there're not a lot of golfers on your level who does this blog thing and it's cool to get information on a daily basis on what it's like and how much hard work it takes. Hope to join you on tour in a few years!Edward
could not have said it any better myself. very cool to see what life is like for a top top top level tour pro, especially on the european tour where travel is basically going from continent to continent. i fly from NY to San Francisco every now and then, and your travel makes it look like a 5min drive. it is really humbling to see your day to day, Alex. keep it up, we're all rooting for you!-ed
