Planning on Free of Charge Junior Camps
2010-06-03
"Alex Camp" at Bro Hof GC the 17-19th of September will be great I think. It's fun that my whole "team" is coming!
We are also planning on having Junior Camps which will be for free later on in the year and I hope some of you guys will be interested in being part of those. I haven't thought enough about them yet and haven't planned any dates but I REALLY WANT TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN! :) I love seeing young players train and have fun on a golf course. You young guys play the game as it should be played. Out of complete JOY! We pros do too but sometimes we forget about the joy in all seriousness that comes with being a professional.
So Alex Junior Camps is totally on the to-do-list and will be priority. Dates, place and who the coaches will be will be decided soon.
It would be great to hear what you guys have to say about junior camps. All comments will help us making the best possible camps.
By the way, this was the awesome view at 5.30 this morning at the Twenty-Ten course at Celtic Manor:

-1 today. Kind of pleased. Game is improving.
Also, if you'd like to read my caddie Colin Byrne's article from the "Irish Times" about my swing changes here is the link: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2010/0601/1224271586417.html
And if you want and have the time please send us your thoughts around junior camps. It would be great to hear.
Long blog today. Now it's time to have a go in the gym, again:)

Junior camp sounds great! Went to a "golf high school" in Sweden a couple of years ago and I really think that it would have been a great experience to see how a real pro practise and play. Feels like I pretty much didn´t have an idea of how much time and effort it actually takes to become a professional player. I also think that a great idea is that you or someone else talks about the importance of not giving up during hard times cause everyone will eventually have a season or part of a season when nothing really works as you want it to. Atleast thats why I gave up my hope of becoming a professional player.I think it would be awesome if you could gather a few of the Swedish pros to attend it aswell! I know it could be hard to manage but i really think it would have been a fantastic experience for the young lads. I also think it would create a great atmosphere and give some good PR around you "pros" for giving something back to the younger players.
Good luck on your round today!

Junior camps are awesome!!!I went on the best camp and it was run by Stuart Appleby. We went to Moonah Links Golf Club in Melbourne and we had all the State coaches there we stayed on course got up early and went to the gym and things! It was so awesome with all of us on the range working on our swings, it felt like we were almost tours pros! On the last day of the camp we all went out and played a tournament. But during the week we had talks from Golf Physiotherapists Golf physiologists and Nutritionists. it was so much fun! and so helpful!
Good stuff Alex!
Great Idea!

I´m confused. You write "Free of charge" and then on the site it says 18900 sek. You also write "Dates, place and who the coaches will be will be decided soon. " And on the site it already decieded."Fredrik
Two different Camps. Alex Camp is not for Juniors and it is not free. But he want's to make a camp for kids that is free.If I understood it correctly :)

Alex. Mate i love the blog and read it every day!!As for the junior camps, i think it's an awesome idea. I remember when i was 13 (i'm now 20) and going to a week long camp of golf golf and more golf. An Australian pro called Stephen Leaney who came 2nd one year in the US Open came down and gave a clinic and gave away his putter and a few other things and it was just the best thing in the world for a 13 year old to get to meet a tour pro and learn a bit off him. And then after the camp you go away to practice and get more motivated to get better. I remember after the camp, i went from a handicap of 18 and then three months later i was off single figures.
A great idea if you can find the time and the resources.
Cheers, James (Perth, Australia)
